Pick & Roll My Eyes
Let me start this off by being completely honest: basketball is my least favorite sport. Always has been. But if you’re from Philly, you can’t help but have the Sixers somewhere in your sports DNA. And I do try to follow them—night in and night out—but man, they don’t make it easy.
I remember the 2001 team like it was yesterday. Allen Iverson putting the whole city on his back. Eric Snow grinding on defense. Aaron McKie doing the dirty work. That team had grit. They had heart. And they made us believe we could beat anybody—even a prime Shaq and Kobe. They didn’t win it all, but they gave us something way too rare in this town: a reason to be proud.
And then came The Process. A masterclass in tanking. A franchise that lost—deliberately—for years, all in the name of building for the future. And did it work? That depends on your definition of success. We’ve seen some flashes, sure. But if “Trust the Process” was supposed to lead to a title, we’re still waiting on the delivery.
Now, let me talk about Joel Embiid—because this guy catches way too much heat. Is he perfect? No. Will he occasionally frustrate the hell out of you? Absolutely. But let’s be real: he’s the best thing this franchise has had in two decades, and he actually cares. He wants to win here. That should matter. I’m not saying I won’t be critical of him—this blog will be honest, not soft—but I’m not here to run the guy out of town every time he limps into May.
This blog is for the fans who are still hanging in there, even if you’ve got one foot off the bandwagon. For the ones who want to believe, but are still scarred by blown leads, playoff collapses, and the ghosts of draft picks past. Whether you live and die with every possession or just check in once the playoffs start, you’re welcome here.
I may not love basketball. But I love Philly. And this is still our team.
Let’s see if the Process still has a pulse.
Go Sixers.
Pull up a chair. Or a recliner. Let’s talk Philly sports—our way.
